Owners report their engines consuming a quart of oil every 1,000 miles even though the manual says the oil should be changed at 4,000 miles and that severe operating conditions can cause the change oil message to illuminate as early as 3,500 miles.
The engine can be found in the 2015 and 2016 Chrysler 200.
]]>The investigation will try to confirm the problem and, if neccessary, order a recall.
]]>The plaintiffs say the Uconnect 8.4A system is still defective after multiple replacements. And that there's at least 17 technical bulletins about the 4th generation Uconnect system, but none of them seem to actually do anything productive.
The case, Pistorio, et al., v. FCA US LLC, was filed in Michigan.
]]>But also because having the system freeze and endlessly reboot is super annoying. Full stop.
The plaintiffs tell the familiar tale of bringing in their vehicle multiple times and having software updated and parts replaced. And yet, the problems still exist and dimish the resale value of their cars.
The case, Gerritsen, et al., v. FCA US, LLC, et al., was filed in California.
]]>All vans built between 11/01/2017 and 03/01/2018 will be recalled starting next month.
]]>It’s almost as if FCA thought the were in control of the situation and then suddenly they weren’t 🤔
]]>FCA has replaced nearly 4 million inflators in a series of recalls dating back to 2014. The defective part if responsible for at least 23 deaths and 300 injuries.

]]>Chrysler is recalling 317,000 vehicles, including the Chrysler 300. That’s a pretty small piece of the 3.3 million vehicle recall pie that’s happening across the entire industry right now. David Woods of CarComplaints.com has the full breakdown of which model years and in what zones.
Recently, the inflators have been tied to new casualties, stop-driving orders, and questions from US Senators.
]]>cannot govern out-of-state transactions. The case will continue for Kansas owners who purchased or leased a Chrysler vehicle with an 8.4-inch Uconnect system on or after 01/23/2013.
The plaintiffs claims are something most Chysler owners are familiar with. The Uconnect system freezes, the screen goes blank, and there's no way to control the climate or view the backup camera. The lawsuit said the problems continue even after multiple replacements of the entire system.
]]>chassis fastener joints can fail or fall out and cause problems with steering and handling.
Well, that would stink. There are multiple checkpoints in assembly lines meant to avoid situations like this, but here we are anyway.
FCA didn't say how many cars were affected, but did say they already notified the limited number of owners as part of a recall.
]]>The automaker says it opened an investigation in April 2015 after 10 crashes were reported, and after months of research, engineers determined the occupant restraint control modules may short-circuit and prevent the frontal airbags-and-seat-belts, seat belt pre-tensioners and side air bags from deploying in a crash.
At the time the recall was announced, FCA didn't have a solution or a date when the it'd begin. There's a full list of the 1.9 million recalled vehicles on CarComplaints.com, and those looking for more info can call FCA at 800-853-1403. Give them recall number S61.
]]>The automaker was examining warranty data and opened an investigation that determined an insufficient crimp in a wire harness could cause a fault code in the solenoid. If that occurs, the vehicle will stop moving, something Chrysler says can temporally be fixed by stopping the vehicle and re-starting the engine.
The recall affects certain:
Vehicles built after September 23, 2014 are not affected because the limp crimps were fixed, according to FCA.
]]>"Recalled are 2015-2016 Dodge Journey crossover SUVs, 2015-2016 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans and 2016 Ram ProMaster full-size vans."
There's no word on when the recall will begin.
]]>"The cars were previously repaired for a June 2015 recall issue using an incorrect part that may not prevent the passenger side sun visor from detaching if the passenger frontal airbag deploys and the passenger side sun visor is folded down in a certain position."
Mitsubishi didn't correctly identify the vehicles during the original recall and may have used the wrong parts. And yes, Mitsubishi is handling the recall because the Chrysler and Dodge vehicles were manufactured using the Eclipse platform. Crazy world, eh?
Chrysler hasn't announced when the new recall will begin.
]]>The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivans have overhead seat belt stow clips that can break and cause the seat belts to be useless in a crash. The clips can also turn into projectiles and cause harm to occupants.
The issue was narrowed to Pacifcas built between 02/22/2016 and 04/28/2016, roughly 3,500 vans. They'll all need to be recalled, but Chrysler hasn't said when that'll begin.
]]>Despite all that, they have closed their investigation because Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) has agreed to recall more than a million vehicles and update their gear shifter's software.
But is that enough? The real problem here is that the shifter is unintuitive. It has a central "neutral position" where the lever moves back to each time the driver releases the shifter. Gone are the days of going by the feel or location of the shifter to know when you're in park, now you have to check an indicator light.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) did mention actor Anton Yelchin's death while closing their investigation. He was crushed by a vehicle with a monostable shifter that was rolling away.
The following vehicles use Chrysler's e-Shift:
_The automaker says within the next week it will stop manufacturing vehicles in North America with airbag inflators that don't contain the drying agent. The entire process will be stopped worldwide by mid-September.
Chrysler says most airbag inflators in FCA vehicles have propellants other than unprotected ammonium nitrate, while other inflators do contain ammonium nitrate, but those inflators are equipped with the desiccate.
"I didn't see this coming," said no-one, ever.
]]>"[The vehicles] have nuts on the third-row seatback that weren't torqued properly during assembly. The loose bolts may not hold the seatback, even more so in a crash."
The recall is expected to begin on on June 30, 2016.
]]>This latest round of recalls has been split into what the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is calling "zones" across the country. See the full list of recalled vehicles.
Takata's metal inflators are at risk of exploding because they don't contain a drying agent called desiccate. Without it, the ammonium nitrate inside the inflator can become unstable when exposed to heat and humidity over time. If the inflator explodes, it sends metal shrapnel flying throughout the cabin and sometimes injures or even kills the people inside
This is the largest recall in US history with 70 million affected cars. With that said, parts are scarce and FCA doesn’t have enough to fix their vehicles. Owners should get an initial recall notice in the mail, and then another when parts become available.
]]>"A driver should know the gear-selection based on multiple sets of indicator lights, unlike normal shifters that use a gear-selector position. However, hundreds of drivers have caused their vehicles to roll away because of not realizing the vehicles aren't in Park."
An investigation was opened earlier this year. One or two rollaways might be an accident, but hundreds? That screams of a "back to the drawing board" situation for the FCA team.
The recall includes the 2012-2014 Dodge Charger, 2012-2014 Chrysler 300, and the 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
]]>That's bad news for you (but worse news for your passengers.)
]]>"_The automaker says lab results showed using urethane with a primer that expired in July 2015 always passed the tests. However, using urethane with a primer that expired in January 2015 failed 100 percent of the time._"
Shocking.
]]>e-Shift is a monostable electronic assembly that removes the grooves and tactile feedback of a traditional gear shifter, and replaces it with something much more confusing. The result? More and more Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep owners have no idea if their car is in drive, reverse, or park.
The new shifter has led to an increasing number of vehicles rolling away after the driver exited. How e-Xciting.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into e-Shift last summer. They have since upgraded the investigation to an engineering analysis to determine if 856,000 vehicles need to be recalled.
"NHTSA says to date, there are 306 incidents of Jeep Grand Cherokees rolling away after owners believed the SUVs were shifted into "Park." The 306 rollaway incidents resulted in 117 alleged crashes and 28 injuries. Those injuries include pelvic fractures, broken kneecaps, a ruptured bladder, busted ribs, sprained knees, trauma to the legs, lacerations to the face and various other injuries."
For what it's worth, FCA changed the gearshift design for the 2016 model year.
