Chrysler is trying to wiggle out of another active head restraint lawsuit. The automaker's lawyers point to technicalities in the case that don't hold up in the Arizona Consumer Fraud and Magnuson-Moss Warranty Acts. Another approach they could take would be to actually do something about the restraints that keep randomly smacking people at the base of their skull.

Some Dodge vehicles with the same AHR systems received an extended warranty. Seems like a simple thing to do would be to extend that to every affected Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep owner.

The active head restraints are, after all, deploying because of a cheap plastic bracket that was used presumably to save Chrysler some money.

Chrysler is being sued for excessive oil consumption in the 2.4L Tigershark engine. The plaintiffs allege the engine has a piston ring design defect that allows oil to seep into the combustion chamber.

Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) owners are worried that their vehicles may not pass the next state inspection. And for good reason. Last month, FCA announced that nearly 900,000 vehicles fail to meet emissions standards and will need new catalytic converters. That’s a lot of parts to come up with all at once, so FCA’s plan is to split the recall into stages with older vehicles getting repaired first. Some owners have filed a lawsuit because they will could fail their next state inspection before parts are available.

If everything goes according to schedule, 2013-2014 owners will be eligible for repairs during Q3 of 2019. 2015-2016 owners may not be eligible until the end of the year.

The case will continue for Kansas owners who purchased or leased a Chrysler vehicle with an 8.4-inch Uconnect system on or after 01/23/2013.

Chrysler hasn't announced when the new recall will begin.

What's worse than seat belts that don't work? How about seat belts that don't work and can turn into projectiles in a crash. The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivans have overhead seat belt stow clips that can break and cause the seat belts to be useless in a crash.
The issue was narrowed to Pacifcas built between 02/22/2016 and 04/28/2016, roughly 3,500 vans. They'll all need to be recalled, but Chrysler hasn't said when that'll begin.

How's this for a review? The government says Chrysler's electronic gear shifter "appears to violate several basic design guidelines for vehicle controls." They go on to say it isn't consistent or easy to use. Tell us how you really feel.

Despite all that, they have closed their investigation because Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) has agreed to recall more than a million vehicles and update their gear shifter's software.

But is that enough? The real problem here is that the shifter is unintuitive. It has a central "neutral position" where the lever moves back to each time the driver releases the shifter. Gone are the days of going by the feel or location of the shifter to know when you're in park, now you have to check an indicator light.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) did mention actor Anton Yelchin's death while closing their investigation. He was crushed by a vehicle with a monostable shifter that was rolling away.

The following vehicles use Chrysler's e-Shift:

2012-2014 Chrysler 300

2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) recently recalled a whopping 4.3 million vehicles because of their dangerous Takata airbag inflators. This includes Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and even a few Mitsubishi trucks.

This latest round of recalls has been split into what the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is calling "zones" across the country. See the full list of recalled vehicles.

Takata's metal inflators are at risk of exploding because they don't contain a drying agent called desiccate. Without it, the ammonium nitrate inside the inflator can become unstable when exposed to heat and humidity over time. If the inflator explodes, it sends metal shrapnel flying throughout the cabin and sometimes injures or even kills the people inside

This is the largest recall in US history with 70 million affected cars. With that said, parts are scarce and FCA doesn’t have enough to fix their vehicles. Owners should get an initial recall notice in the mail, and then another when parts become available.

Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) is recalling 1.1 million vehicles with electronic gear selectors. While the system is working as it was designed, it's the design that's the problem.

"A driver should know the gear-selection based on multiple sets of indicator lights, unlike normal shifters that use a gear-selector position. However, hundreds of drivers have caused their vehicles to roll away because of not realizing the vehicles aren't in Park."

An investigation was opened earlier this year. One or two rollaways might be an accident, but hundreds? That screams of a "back to the drawing board" situation for the FCA team.

The recall includes the 2012-2014 Dodge Charger, 2012-2014 Chrysler 300, and the 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

If it ain't broke, you can trust automakers to try and fix it. That's exactly what's happening with some Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) vehicles. Someone high up in the FCA food chain decided it was time to swap out the dependable gear shifter for something a bit fancier.

e-Shift is a monostable electronic assembly that removes the grooves and tactile feedback of a traditional gear shifter, and replaces it with something much more confusing. The result? More and more Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep owners have no idea if their car is in drive, reverse, or park.

The new shifter has led to an increasing number of vehicles rolling away after the driver exited. How e-Xciting.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into e-Shift last summer. They have since upgraded the investigation to an engineering analysis to determine if 856,000 vehicles need to be recalled.

"NHTSA says to date, there are 306 incidents of Jeep Grand Cherokees rolling away after owners believed the SUVs were shifted into "Park." The 306 rollaway incidents resulted in 117 alleged crashes and 28 injuries. Those injuries include pelvic fractures, broken kneecaps, a ruptured bladder, busted ribs, sprained knees, trauma to the legs, lacerations to the face and various other injuries."

For what it's worth, FCA changed the gearshift design for the 2016 model year.
